What is ADD (ADHD)?
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD or ADHD) is a chronic neurobiological disorder that impairs attention, concentration and organizational skills. It can affect every aspect of a person's life and commonly persists into adulthood. Living with ADD can be challenging, but it can also be very rewarding. The key to success is to understand how to adjust your behaviors, habits and lifestyle to meet your ADD needs.

As the terms ADD or ADHD became more familiar during the 1990s, many books were written about Attention Deficit Disorder (for simplicity's sake, we'll use the term ADD). Most focused on how to diagnose ADD and on the medications used in treatment, but very few books provided information on ways that individuals and their families could take charge of the many challenges of ADD and lead productive and fulfilling lives.
ADD-friendly living . . .
ADD affects every aspect of life and every aspect of life has an effect upon ADD. Where you live, how you live and the people you encounter on a daily basis can all affect the challenges of ADD for better or worse.

Our goal in this series is to help people with ADD and their families make changes in their daily living patterns and in their environment that will create a more ADD-friendly lifestyle. In particular, we hope to teach people how to work with their ADD instead of always fighting against it.

ADD-friendly books . . .
The ADD-friendly Living Series books are designed with the ADD-reader in mind. Too often, books on ADD go unread because they are so ADD-unfriendly. Either they are not relevant to one's situation, too long, too cluttered or too boring - causing a reader with ADD to quickly lose interest.

Our goal in this series is to create information-packed books that an individual with ADD will read because they:

  • Focus on a single topic.
  • Get to the point, so that information can be found quickly.
  • Are well-organized, with bold topic headings and bulleted lists.
  • Are reader-friendly, with clear print and eye-catching graphics.
  • Provide summaries for quick review.

We hope that our ADD-friendly Living Series will help our readers create a more ADD-friendly lifestyle for themselves and those they love.

This first volume of our ADD-friendly Living Series was produced in partnership with The National Center for Gender Issues and ADHD, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of and advocating for women with ADHD, and was supported by an educational grant from Eli Lilly & Company.
